Fax Cog Features
Fax Cog is the AIS Facsimile Compression Software Trans-Codec (transcoder / compressor / decompressor).
Fax Cog is a commercially available implementation of the "CCITT Group 3", "CCITT Group 4", and JBIG compression specifications, the ITU-T T.4, ITU-T T.6, and ITU-T T.82 bitmap compression standards.
CCITT Group 3 and CCITT Group 4 compressions are very compatible, being in wide use for more than twenty years, and also very efficient, compressing some facsimile images twenty times, losslessly, for Group 4 facsimile encoding. Primarily used in document imaging, many millions of pieces of paper are stored in this ubiquitous compressed form.
Fax Cog is designed as a very flexible library and component for use within programs that require fax compression, as specified in ITU-T Recommendations T.4 and T.6, and in the style of IBM MMR and TIFF Modified Huffman and the ITU-T T.85 JBIG facsimile profile.
Fax Cog is implemented in an ISO/ANSI C, and C++, language implementation.
Fax Cog is designed as industrial-use software for facsimile encoding and decoding, with modular inputs and outputs in terms of memory and file I/O, and enables a variety of transcoding and data inspection/validation options.
The transcoding methods allow very efficient conversions among various types of fax compressed data, with direct conversions between Group 3 1-D and 2-D, and Group 4, and support of the uncompressed mode extensions in 1-D and 2-D data, with EOL alignment and scanline padding, and sequential and progressive JBIG. This transcoding in the partially compressed domain allows very efficient validation and repurposing of facsimile compressed data.
Fax Cog is very efficient and outperforms many other facsimile compression codecs.
Fax Cog can handle compressed images of millions of pixels in dimensions.
